Dear Parents,

It has been an interesting and busy week in school. As you are probably aware, KS2 national testing takes place in May, and all of our Year 6 children will be taking part. They are all studying really hard at the moment so that when they take their tests, they can make themselves and their families proud.

In our assemblies this week, we have been thinking about the events after the Resurrection and the reality of what the first Christians saw and experienced.

Holy Mass

On Tuesday the children from Year 4 joined those in the Parish for 10am Mass. This is something that used to occur frequently before the pandemic and we would like it to become once again a normal part of school life. Thank you to Father Patrick and his team who ‘reserve’ us a few pews near the front.

School Uniform

Despite the request last week, teachers are still noticing some children arrive to school in trainers. Our school uniform is so smart and it is a shame to spoil it by not having the correct footwear. Please make sure that your child does not try to wear trainers instead of school shoes.

Head Lice

We have had a confirmed case of head lice in the school. Please remember the following points: to check your child’s hair carefully and buy a pharmacy treatment if you notice lice in the hair, and to remember that head lice favour clean hair.

Assemblies and Liturgies

It was such a pleasure to share an assembly with the children from Class 4T yesterday. They certainly are a group full of actors and performers. The message from Pope Francis about a fair chance for all really resonated.

The dates for forthcoming assemblies are as follows:

Thursday 2nd May – Class 3A

Thursday 9th May – Class 3E

Unless you are told otherwise, assemblies begin at 9.30am.

Achievement Certificates

The achievement certificates this week are awarded to Anushik in 3A, Mikaela in 3E, Ireayomide in 4D, All in 4T, Emmanuel in 5B, Isabel in 5C, Jack in 6G and Eliab in 6P. The Head of School’s award goes to Jason and Oscar in 6P. The swimmer of the week is Aarav in 3A. The Kindness Award this week goes to David and Zachary in 4D.

Have a peaceful weekend.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew McDonald

Head of School

Health Advice for parents

Coronavirus

The World Health Organisation now considers the covid pandemic to not be a global health emergency. For advice and support if you suspect someone has covid, please visit:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-symptoms-and-what-to-do/

When using a test, check that it is a recent one that is set up to detect new strains of the virus.

Group A Strep (streptococci)

Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Children with these symptoms should not attend school.
