Nursery  Newsletter

26th April 2024

Dear parents/carers,

It's been another delightful week in Nursery! Our little learners have been eagerly exploring and engaging in various activities alongside their friends. It's been wonderful to see the children taking ownership of their learning and making thoughtful choices as they navigate their educational journey. We're thrilled to share that the children who joined Nursery last week have seamlessly settled in and are already forming new friendships. The warm and welcoming atmosphere of our Nursery environment has fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie among all our young learners.

Religious Education

We have been continuing our topic ‘Good news’. The children have been thinking about what good news is and sharing our good news in our learning groups. We have been learning about the story of Pentecost and how it was good news for Jesus’s friends. Next week we will be continuing to learn about Pentecost and will thinking about the good news Jesus sent to his friends through the Holy Spirit.

Phonic

Our initial sound will be ‘v’. The children will be learning to say the sound and looking at objects and pictures that start with the sound ‘v’ e.g. van, vet, volcano. We will be playing ‘what’s in the box?’ to support this.

Home Learning:

Have a look at home or when you are out and about to see if you can find things that begin with ‘v’. Maybe you can play ‘I spy with my little eye, something beginning with ‘v’. ‘

Communication, Language and Literacy

We will continue to read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ as part of our minibeast topic. We will be discovering other minibeasts and looking for them in the Nursery garden.

Home Learning:

Here is a link to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar to share at home.

Maths

Next week children will be exposed to the numeral 5. They will be continuing to count out a set of 5 objects and we will be trying to recognise different amounts from 1 to 5 without counting. We are also learning about more and less. The children will look at 2 groups of objects and decide which has more objects and which has less.  The children who have joined us in Nursery last week will be focusing on the numbers 1 to 3.

Home Learning:  Ask your child to collect for you 5 or 3 objects. Can they count them? Can they take one away?

If you have 2 groups  of objects can your child tell you which has more and which has less.

Reminders: Please ensure your child’s shoes have their name on them as we sometimes need to take them off to wear wellies in the garden. Thank you.

Thank you for your support, Miss Fuller and the Nursery team.
