Reception Newsletter

26th April 2024

Dear parents/carers,

As we bid farewell to another exciting week at St. Mary's, I want to extend a warm greeting and heartfelt thanks for your continued support and partnership in your child's education journey. It's been a joyous week filled with laughter, learning, and moments of discovery as the children continue to impress us with their curiosity and enthusiasm.

Religious Education

In Religious Education, our focus has been on exploring the theme of 'Good News' in our Religious Education lessons. Through engaging activities and discussions, the children learned about Jesus as God's messenger on earth and how he delivered messages of hope and love to all. Inspired by the beloved tale of the Jolly Postman, our young learners embarked on their own creative journey, crafting messages of joy and kindness to share with their peers.

Phonics

In the world of phonics, our budding readers and writers have been on an exciting journey through Phase 3. With a focus on mastering tricky words and refining their blending and segmenting skills, the children have embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Each day brings new discoveries and triumphs as they unlock the secrets of language and communication.

Home Learning Task:
Practice blending and segmenting using the new tricky words introduced this week. Incorporate them into everyday conversations and reading activities.

Literacy: Communication and Language

In Literacy, we continue on our adventures of the captivating world of 'The Night Pirates.' As we journey alongside brave characters on their escapades, the children have been immersed in rich language experiences, honing their comprehension skills and unleashing their imaginations through character exploration and descriptive writing. From plotting treasure hunts to crafting character profiles, it's been a week filled with literary magic!

Home Learning Task: Encourage your child to share their own piece of good news with the family, whether through a drawing, writing, or verbal storytelling.

Maths

In Maths, we ventured beyond the familiar territory of single digits into the realm of numbers beyond 10. Through hands-on activities, games, and interactive exercises, the children have been building a solid foundation in number recognition, sequencing, and formation. Their mathematical prowess continues to shine brightly with each new concept mastered!

Home Learning Task: Explore numbers beyond 10 in everyday contexts. Count objects around the house, practice writing numerals, and create simple addition and subtraction stories together.

As we embark on a well-deserved weekend break, I want to express my gratitude for your unwavering support and commitment to your child's education. Together, we are shaping bright futures and nurturing curious minds. Have a restful weekend, and I look forward to another week of joyful learning ahead!

Warm regards,

Mr A Francois Williams
