St Mary's Infant School Newsletters

Head of school

Newsletter no. 30

26th April 2024

Dear parents / carers,

I was fortunate to be able to get out into our school garden this week with some of the children from Year 2 to have a tidy up. We have begun to cut back some of the plants and have started to tackle the huge task of weeding. It certainly feels like summer is on the way and made me think about how much St Mary’s children are always willing to help others.

This week, we have introduced the term ‘Catholic Social Teaching’ to the children in Key Stage One. There are the seven principles of Catholic Social Teaching and, although we know the children already live these principles in their day to day life, we would like them to understand WHY Catholics value these principles so highly. It is what we are called to do in this world and how we live our Catholic Faith. The areas of Catholic Social Teaching are:

Sharing Fairly- Work is important in God’s plan for adults and their families, so jobs and pay should be fair.

Everyone is Special- God made each person, so every life is important and should be protected.

Thinking of Everyone- God made us to be part of communities, families and countries, so all people can share and help each other.

Caring for God’s creation – The world was made by God so we take care of His creation.

Showing we care – God made everyone so we are all brothers and sisters in God’s family wherever we live.

Putting people most in need first – God wants us to help people who are poor, who don’t have enough food, a safe place to live or a community to live in.

Being peacemakers – God wants us to live in peace and harmony.

Next week I will be doing and NSPCC assembly for the children about speaking out and staying safe.  As we all know it is important for children to speak to a familiar adult when they feel something is wrong, either at home or at school. This assembly will explain to the children how important it is to be able to ‘speak out and stay safe’ and remind them who they can talk to.  I have put the link below so you can see what the children will be learning.

Also, as part of the NSCPP programme about keeping children safe we also show them a fun video about how important it is to keep your private parts to yourself and be able to say ‘NO’ to people who ask to see or that touch them. I have put the link below so you can see the video and know and understand why we need to be able to speak to children about these things

If we, as a school and you as parents, can equip the children with the right tools to be able to speak out and stay safe in the world then we are doing a good job.

Uniform Sale

In the school office we have our second-hand uniform on sale. There are lots of jumpers, T-shirts, boys’ trousers, girls’ skirts and summer dresses. If you need anything come along, have a look and just put a donation in the pot.

We cannot grow up by ourselves; rather, we journey and grow in a community, in a family”

A Word from Pope Francis

“May nothing keep you from growing in friendship with God”

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank you for the people who help us grow in your love and please help them to keep growing in goodness.

Amen

Golden Table

It was a pleasure to have lunch on the Golden table today with such polite children. I can see why they had all be chosen to have lunch with me. This week the children with exceptional manners were:

Kaito in St Andrew Class

Raul in St George Class

Grace in St Bernadette Class

Jaydel in St Therese Class

Kosi in St Francis Class

Jewel in St Martin Class

We had lovely conversations about the foods we enjoy eating at home with our families and what we like to cook.
