26th April 2024

Dear Parents / Carers,

Our Celebration Assembly

Our Stars of the Week are: Zoe in St Bernadette Class and Naomi in St Therese Class.

Our awards for St Mary’s Way go to Ryan in St Bernadette Class and Aubrey and Lisa in St Therese Class

Religious Education

We will continue our topic ‘Holidays/Holy days'.  We will learn about the events of the day Jesus ascended into Heaven, and how Jesus appeared to his disciples and made a promise to send His Holy Spirit to them

Home learning: Discuss with your child what it feels like when somebody who is close to your family is leaving for a while.  How does it make you feel?

  Maths

Over the next three weeks we will be learning about multiplication and division. The children will learn how to count in multiples of 2, 5 and 10.

Home Learning:  Practise counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s with your child. Please also try to show them the multiplication facts that go with these numbers e.g. 1x2=2, 2x2=4, 3x2=6, 4x2=8, 5x2=10.

 English

Next week we will be creating our own story maps for the story of Little Red Riding Hood. At the end of the week we will begin write the story of Little Red Riding Hood in our own words.

Home Learning: Ask your child to tell you their favourite fairy tale/traditional tale. Encourage them to use expression when they are speaking in character.

Here is a link to the version of the story that we are using in class, for you to enjoy with your child:

Phonics

This half term the children are recapping sounds in order to consolidate their knowledge preparation for the phonics screening check in June. They are reading ‘alien’ words daily in their phonics sessions as part of this preparation.

Please ensure you are reading daily with your child at home, this is very important and can have a huge impact on the development of your child’s reading.

The reading books are matched to the children’s current phonic knowledge and this allows them to apply the sounds that they are learning to their independent reading.

Home Learning: Please look at the video containing the phase 5 sounds your child should know by now

If you would like your child to practise reading ‘alien’ words at home, please follow this link to a video of the screening check from 2023. The children can read the words shown in the video and it models how to correctly say each sound:
